In a bid to recognize outstanding academic performance and support youth independence, the Sharjah Police have introduced a new initiative titled “Excellence License.” Under this programme, the top ten high school graduates from government schools across Sharjah will receive a free driving license for students. It is fully funded and covers every expense from filing to final issuance.
Launched in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Sharjah Driving Institute, and Belhasa Driving Institute, this initiative reflects a shared commitment to recognising effort and supporting students as they step into future careers with greater responsibility.
Why an initiative like this?
Brigadier Khalid Mohammed Al Kay of Sharjah Police’s Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department explained that the programme is a strategic step in empowering youth. “Driving offers freedom, responsibility, and new opportunities,” he noted. He also emphasised how the “Excellence License” rewards both academic achievement and personal development.
The initiative fully covers every step of the licensing process, making it one of the most comprehensive student driving license programmes in the UAE. It includes everything from registering a driving profile and completing mandatory eye tests to attending all theory and practical classes.
In addition, Sharjah Police have introduced another complimentary scheme called “License for the Children of Givers.” This offers a 50 percent discount on driving tuition for children of police personnel. It helps reduce training costs and serves as a token of appreciation for the service of their families.
Brigadier Al Kay added that both initiatives reflect a shared vision between schools and public agencies. The goal is to equip youth with practical skills and instill safe, responsible habits behind the wheel.
Why It Matters for Youth in Sharjah
The move is particularly timely. It offers students a tangible benefit that supports mobility and independence, a key step as they embark on university life or early careers. It also sets a precedent for how community safety, education, and public services can work together to motivate excellence.
Furthermore, the initiative promotes a culture of safe driving and strengthens the foundation for driver education in the UAE. This remains a top priority in nations experiencing rapid development and rising vehicle ownership.
